IELTS Listening: Sentence completion
- do something about it
- call the local authorities
- endangered species
- high ecological impact
- conventional monitoring methods
- innovative techniques
- camera traps

IELTS Listening: Transcript

1. C
“We have certain issues such as climate change, particularly humidity and tropical weather. We have increased globalisation, more traffic across the world. People travelling more, more trade. We are encroaching into habitats that previously we as humans did not really know those ecological niches were occupied by other species. But we are invading them.”
He said inadequate healthcare systems and sanitation infrastructure raise the risk of disease in poor areas. And as population grows, livestock production intensifies, which has its own set of risk factors.
Climate-related alterations = climate change
Intensified traffic = more traffic across the world
Global warming: không được nhắc tới
Uncontrolled population growth = population grows
People started to exploit new habitats = we are encroaching into habitats…
2. A and C
“As we intensify livestock production, we have created, let’s say, a monoculture. By using antibiotics, for example, as growth promoters or antibiotics without the supervision of qualified personnel, we do allow for disease resistant organisms to go throughout the herd or throughout the community. And this can, at the end, affect human health,” he said.
Antibiotics are used to boost livestock production = using antibiotics as growth promoters
Antibiotics are used to cure animal diseases caused by resistant organisms: không được nhắc tới
Antibiotics are used by unqualified people = without the supervision of qualified personnel
Antibiotics used for animals are also applied to humans: không được nhắc tới
3. B
“The origin of the human immunodeficiency virus, HIV, which causes AIDS, probably had its precursor in something that we know today to be simian or monkey immunodeficiency virus. And then even more recently, we have the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, which is caused by a corona virus, which likely has an animal origin. We are at the point in research, which we still are trying to find out what origin that is.”
4. D
The report said the holistic approach includes reducing poverty, addressing biological threats posed by globalization and climate change and better safety and health measures in livestock production.
Decreasing poverty = reducing poverty
Finding measures for handling biological hazards = addressing biological threats
Safer methods in livestock production = better safety and health measures in livestock production
Reducing population growth: không được nhắc đến
5. C
A. Solutions to disease threats
B. Globalisation is the cause of new diseases
C. Causes of and measures for animal-to-human diseases
D. Alarming status of natural resources and emerging diseases
